Product Overview

The Shure SM58S is the industry-standard cardioid dynamic vocal microphone, specified with an on/off switch for use in sound reinforcement, houses of worship, auditoriums, and commercial AV installations where talent-controlled muting is required. Its frequency-tailored vocal response and proven reliability have made it the default handheld microphone for professional AV integrators worldwide. The SM58S ships without a cable, matching the needs of system integrators who specify cabling independently. Whether deployed at a podium, on a handheld clip, or in a portable sound reinforcement rig, the SM58S delivers consistent, predictable performance run after run.

Product Description

The Shure SM58S features a cardioid polar pattern optimized for close-miking vocal sources, attenuating off-axis bleed from monitors, adjacent sources, and room noise critical in complex commercial AV environments. A built-in spherical wind and pop filter reduces plosive and breath noise, improving intelligibility without requiring an external pop screen in most installations. The pneumatic shock-mount system minimizes mechanical noise from stand vibration and cable handling. The hardened steel mesh grille protects the cartridge in rigorous daily use without compromising audio quality. The on/off switch locks out unintentional activation, making the SM58S practical for presenter-operated reinforcement in conference spaces, training rooms, and event venues. For instrument miking applications in the same installation, see the Shure SM57-LC at Creation Networks.

Key Features

• Cardioid Polar Pattern Isolates the vocal source and rejects room noise, monitor bleed, and off-axis interference common in multi-source commercial AV environments.
• On/Off Switch Gives presenters and performers direct mute control without requiring operator intervention from an FOH or rack-mounted console.
• Frequency-Tailored Vocal Response (5015,000 Hz) Contoured to deliver natural, intelligible voice reproduction suited for speech reinforcement, house of worship, and live sound applications.
• Pneumatic Shock-Mount Mechanically decouples the capsule from the handle, reducing stand-transmitted noise and handling artifacts.
• Built-In Spherical Wind and Pop Filter Controls plosive and breath noise at the source, simplifying microphone placement in presenter and performer applications.
• Hardened Steel Mesh Grille Provides commercial-grade protection for the cartridge during transport and daily use in installed or portable AV systems.
• Low Output Impedance (300 Ohms) Drives long balanced XLR runs without signal degradation, compatible with standard commercial AV console inputs.
