Product Overview

The Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 is a full-frame E-mount portrait prime lens for Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras, well suited to corporate video production, broadcast studios, and event capture. Its fast f/1.8 aperture and short-telephoto focal length produce flattering subject isolation and smooth background blur for interviews and headshots. A compact, dust- and moisture-resistant body keeps this 85mm f/1.8 lens for Sony mirrorless practical for both studio and field use. It balances optical quality, fast autofocus, and value for production teams standardizing on E-mount.

Product Description

The FE 85mm f/1.8 uses an optical design of nine elements in eight groups, including one extra-low dispersion (ED) element that controls chromatic aberration for clean, contrast-rich images. A double linear autofocus motor drives fast, quiet focusing that works well for both stills and as a short telephoto prime for video production, and an on-barrel focus-hold button plus AF/MF switch give operators direct control on set. A nine-blade rounded diaphragm renders smooth, circular bokeh that separates subjects from the backgroundideal for talking-head interviews and product close-ups in a broadcast studio. The dust- and moisture-resistant build supports reliable use in mixed environments, while a light 371 g body reduces fatigue on gimbals and shoulder rigs. Covering the full-frame image circle, it also mounts on APS-C E-mount bodies for an effective field of view near 127 mm. The lens accepts common 67 mm front filters and pairs naturally with Sony Alpha cameras and other gear in the video camera hardware lineup from Creation Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which cameras is this lens compatible with?
It mounts on all Sony E-mount bodies. On full-frame Alpha cameras it delivers an 85 mm field of view; on APS-C E-mount bodies the effective field of view is approximately 127 mm.

Is it suitable for video as well as stills?
Yes. The double linear AF motor is fast and quiet for video, though, like most primes in this class, it exhibits some focus breathing. There is no in-lens stabilization, so pair it with in-body IS or a gimbal for handheld work.

What filter size does it use?
The front thread is 67 mm, a common size that simplifies sharing filters across a kit.

Is the lens weather-sealed for field use?
It features dust- and moisture-resistant construction suitable for typical on-location production; it is resistant, not fully weatherproof, so use reasonable protection in heavy conditions.

What warranty and support are included?
The lens carries Sonys manufacturer warranty. Creation Networks supports production teams with quoting and fulfillmentrequest a quote for multi-unit orders.
